Taking the train from Casablanca Airport to Marrakech
The airport railway station sits beneath Terminal 1. Trains run roughly hourly through the day toward Casablanca; for Marrakech you change at Casa Voyageurs onto the southern main line. The airport leg takes about 40 minutes, the Casablanca–Marrakech leg around 2 h 40 to 3 h, and with a typical connection wait the full journey lands between four and five hours. Second-class fares for the two legs together are usually 130–200 MAD per person.
The train is comfortable and cheap for solo travellers with light luggage. The catch is the change with bags, evening frequency thinning out after about 21:00, and the fact that Marrakech station is still a taxi ride from most riads — with medina drivers who know a tired arrival when they see one.
Is there a direct bus from CMN to Marrakech?
Not from the airport itself. CTM and Supratours coaches leave from downtown Casablanca, so you would first ride the airport train or a taxi into the city, then join a roughly four-hour coach. It only makes sense if the schedule happens to line up and budget is the overriding concern.
The private transfer: how it works
A pre-booked driver meets you inside the arrivals hall with a name sign, tracks your flight so delays cost nothing, and drives the A7 motorway straight to your Marrakech address — typically 2.5 to 3 hours door to door. The price is fixed in writing before you fly: from 1,950 MAD (≈ $195 · €180) per vehicle for up to five passengers, everything included. For two or more people sharing, the per-person cost closes in on first-class rail — for half the travel time and none of the luggage logistics.
Landing after 20:00? Go private. Evening trains are sparse, the connection risk grows, and Marrakech station taxis at midnight are nobody's favourite negotiation.
Which option should you choose?
- Solo, light bag, daytime landing, tight budget → the train is genuinely good.
- Two or more people, real luggage, a riad address, or any evening arrival → private transfer wins on every axis but sticker price.
- Families with children or travellers with reduced mobility → private transfer, with child seats fitted free on request.
